Forever AMEN Ministries

Meeting the spiritual and educational needs of the body of Christ.

Meet Rev. Saundra

The Lord announces the word, and the women who proclaim it are a mighty throng: Psalm 68:11 (NIV).

Born in Highland Park, MI and raised in the motor city, Detroit, baby boomer Saundra grew up during the age of movements: civil rights, gay rights, anti-war, and the rise of feminism to name a few.

If you are a baby boomer, you probably remember that not only was secular society caught up in the whirlwind of radical changes, the Christian world was being painfully challenged to confront and cope with the expulsion of prayer and Bible reading in public schools; nuns and priests were leaving their orders for secular lives and/or marriage, and the role of churches in society was becoming more and more ambiguous. While religious commitment in the United States was said to have remained relatively high, polls were increasingly suggesting that nearly 80% of Americans felt religion in the United States was in rapid decline.

Yet, even in the midst of turbulent and challenging times, God was still calling and equipping His people for His service. In the noisy world with many conflicting sounds beckoning our attention, there still existed that small, still voice that penetrated hearts and minds – calling us to serve, reminding us to trust Him in all things.

In faith and trust, Saundra responded obediently to the call to His service. She has traveled the "Way of the Cross" for over four decades preaching, teaching, reaching, ministering and rendering practical help to those in need. Forever AMEN Ministries will continue to do all we can toward empowering the Body of Christ to truly live the faith, for His sake and our own. Please join us in the vital ministry!

All glory to God!

Preparation for Ministry

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21.

God worked His power in me, making me what I should be and equipping me to accomplish His divine will. Glory to His holy name!     Saundra

Urban Ministry

Pastor Saundra's urban work history began in the child welfare system where for seven years she helped children, separated from their family of origin, adjust to foster care by addressing their loss and separation, grief and bereavement issues and overseeing their general well being in the foster home. Combined with this responsibility, Saundra conducted countywide seminars on children's death and dying, loss and separation issues and served in various capacities providing mental health counseling and substance abuse prevention education to the community's high risk families.

Later she served with Hospice of Michigan, where she directed the spiritual and bereavement care programs, created and conducted grief groups, oversaw memorial services and provided grief/bereavement counseling.

Upon relocating to Florida in 2000, Rev. Washington served the Sickle Cell Foundation by overseeing the general operations and quality management of Maternal Child Health Program as well as serving part-time assessing and connecting the homebound to health care services.

More recently Saundra served Hospice by the Sea, Boca Raton, providing palliative and end-of-life services education to Palm Beach County’s African American community.

Pastor Washington identifies one of her most rewarding and challenging experiences as her two year research work with Wayne State University's Department of Community Medicine, Infant Mortality program. As research assistant, she co-developed the infant mortality home interview program component of research project and established program protocols, conducted home interviews with mothers who suffered the death of infants due to SIDS or homicide, and rendered individual grief and loss management counseling services.

In 2005, Pastor Washington founded AMEN Ministries, a ministry attending to the needs of our local community by providing sacred ceremonies for those unable or unwilling to attend traditional church services, but desire partaking in its worship rituals. Volunteer community clergy traveled to their location of choice to perform sacred rituals such as: engagements, weddings, funerals, anniversaries, memorials, christenings, baptisms, rites of passage, prayer services, and other important celebrations in the Christian life. We also provided referrals to various community organizations appropriate to the need indicated including referrals to houses of worship if requested.

In 2012, AMEN Ministries, in response to the needs of the community. Our concentration is now focused on: the edification of the body of Christ and providing spiritual care to those experiencing adjustment difficulties in the aftermath of suffering significant losses in their lives. Thus, our ministry name was altered to "Forever AMEN Ministries" to reflect this new vision in the name of the great AMEN!
